This beautiful antique Scottish brooch was crafted during the mid Victorian era and built around a large cairngorm in the centre, with rings of colourful agates radiating outwards.
Scottish jewellery grew in popularity in the mid- 1800s as Queen Victoria’s frequent trips to her Scottish Castle Balmoral saw her return with Scottish souvenirs and jewellery which influenced the trend in Britain.
Cairngorms are sourced from the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland and have a unique, treacle coloured hue that glows like a dark citrine.
The gallery is all silver and engraved with celtic patterning with a kite hallmark on the reverse, dating the piece to the 2nd of May 1869. It’s steeped in history and one to be treasured.
