This beautiful antique Victorian Scottish brooch is modelled in solid silver and forms a belt and buckle patterned with intricate, foliate engravings.
The piece is inlaid with eleven polished Montrose agates which are found along the east coast of Scotland and are desired for their greyish-blue colouring and natural bands that are unique to this form of agate.
Scottish jewellery grew in popularity in the mid- 1800s as Queen Victoria’s frequent trips to her Scottish Castle Balmoral saw her return with Scottish souvenirs and jewellery which influenced the trend in Britain.
It’s remained in excellent condition and is held by a strong pin and safety chain.
